Personality: Peter Lukas is a rather odd monster in the grand scheme of things. Raised from birth to be isolated and lonely he embraced that lifestyle with every inch of his being to the point where it has been stated that all he ever wanted was to die alone. Peter is a bit of a contradiction in how he deals with people, enjoying banter but loathing the company of others to the point where he makes a point of only dealing with people one on one whenever he can help it. If he has to deal with people he prefers it in small doses, such as when he is on board his ship the Tundra, he likes to be in control of things. Control is everything to him.
Compared to other avatars in the world, Peter comes off as rather more passive in how he deals with things. Sure, he plots and ploys but he doesn’t actively seek victims the way others do and lets them come to him instead. After all, loneliness can sneak up on just about anyone and it is much easier to take advantage of what he finds. He’s also a bit short-sighted, bad at stepping back to see the big picture rather than the close-up view in front of him, which has led him to more than a few mistakes. Mistakes like letting Jon into the Lonely to fulfill the terms of a bet with Elias without quite realizing that it would spell the end of the world on the other man’s terms.
He likes to play with people, using his powers to sneak up on others and startle them or to silently spy upon them when they’re making plans. He also likes to find weak spots and poke at them, making cruel statements that cut to the heart of their insecurities, especially those that feature loneliness.
A gambling man, like many people with money and far too much time on his hands, Peter likes to make bets in order to keep things interesting. Especially when dealing with other avatars, favors and debts are the currency that he will happily deal with over all others. When you have been given the power to destroy lives you have to take risks to keep things interesting for yourself, after all. Additionally, gambling in an impersonal way to interact with people, it reduces the whole scenario down to a transaction rather than anything more personal. Everything exists within the context of the bet and once the stakes have been resolved he can leave without feeling any sort of obligation. Is there anything better for a man who wants to be left alone?
So what does someone like Peter fear? More than crowds, more than being trapped in situations with no escape from emotional connection he worries about the birth of the new power. He fears the thought of an empty world that would destroy the very loneliness he has dedicated his life to and in response to that he sought to end the world in a way that would suit him best.
His morality is very much hundreds of shades of grey. Peter understands that what he does makes him a monster but he does not seem to feel any guilt about it. He doesn’t even seem to feel any guilt about the prospect of having Elias killed as part of their bet. Allies are valued so long as they are useful and even if he is one of his oldest friends, Peter has no qualms about ending his life if it means getting his way in the end. However, he is also oddly loyal when push comes to shove.
In the end, Peter is a very human monster. He’s flawed, short-sighted, and not always the best at reading someone’s true intentions thanks to his inexperience with others. This inability to read past the surface spelled his doom when he couldn’t see that Martin was playing him the entirety of season 4. He’s also stubborn, unwilling to give up more than necessary, or do anything that would push him outside of his comfort zone. Even in the face of his death, Peter was stubborn enough to resist Jon’s compulsion to reveal what Elias wanted, though it was more about his desire to be left alone than out of any kind of misplaced loyalty to the man who had orchestrated his doom.
The quintessential old man, Peter is also the worst at technology. He’s that old relative everyone hates because he refuses to learn and instead just pawns off the responsibility onto someone else. And while that’s annoying for everyone else, that willingness to delegate has worked for him thus far in both his time on board the Tundra as well as his time as head of the Magnus Institute.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
Audio/visual distortion: Peter has an odd effect on any recording devices in his vicinity where whenever he is present they begin to record a heavy presence of static, especially in moments where he is using his other abilities the static gains volume.
Invisibility: He can disappear without a trace, becoming imperceptible to the average person without powers. This invisibility can be pierced by another sufficiently powerful person whose abilities relate to sight. (Such as Jonathan Simms.)
The Lonely: His most powerful ability, Peter has access to The Lonely which is both another dimension as well as the manifestation of his god. He can retreat into this place and can also take other people in with him. While the Lonely does not affect him adversely, ordinary people find themselves losing their sense of self and fall into a deep depression that will eventually cause them to literally fade away into nothing. In game, he will not have access to The Lonely as either a retreat or a means of harming other characters, this will be attributed to his death. He may be able to manifest some fog that will have mild disorienting abilities but the effect would be highly localized and the duration/strength of it would be determined by the person he was using it against and it could be escaped/broken with effort.
Inventory: His wallet, a heavy woolen peacoat, a billfold with 500 dollars in it and a copy of The Seven Lamps of Architecture
